Pınar Akkurt
Artist, Designer

Focusing mostly on installations, Akkurt uses easy-to-reach, everyday objects and transforms them into new shapes and forms, giving them new functions. Her key concepts are colour, perspective, transformation and upcycling. A graduate of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Graphic Department, she has worked as a designer for years, never giving up research and implementation on how to form fresh visual languages and design sustainable systems in bigger scales, using variable materials. An important part of her work practice is doing and trying. That’s why the DIY (do it yourself) culture, giving her the chance to transform readymade or raw materials, is always a part of her life. She carries on her work in upcycling, a natural extension of this culture. She moved on to collect simple and practical examples or methods on how to transform waste materials, forming an “Upcycling Library”. She continues to share her experience by giving workshops in various universities and talks both locally and abroad. She is currently a guest lecturer at Istanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Architecture.
